Found a flyer for a lost cat that had been up for 8 months and realized I never look at dates on these things

I walked past this same community board downtown every day for almost a year and never noticed the cat was long gone until someone wrote 'still missing??' in pen underneath it in June.

That flyer really says something about how we stop seeing things that don't change. We walk past the same signs, the same cracks in the sidewalk, the same faded notices until they're just background noise. Makes you wonder what else we're missing just because it's always been there.

You ever walk into the kitchen for something and completely forget why you're there? That's basically how I treat my whole neighborhood now. I swear I walked past a "Lost Cat" poster for three months before I actually READ it and realized it was MY cat on the flyer. My brain just filed it under "random paper on pole" and moved on. Now I'm wondering what else I've mentally deleted from my life. Probably my keys.
