My brother in law's comment about our grocery budget hit different last Sunday

He saw our receipt from Aldi and said 'man, you guys spend more on snacks than I do on my whole week of meals.' It made me realize we were dropping like $60 a week just on chips, cookies, and random impulse buys. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on something that made you actually change a habit?

...and there I was thinking my weekly Trader Joe's haul was being responsible. My wife's sister came over once, saw the pile of frozen mac and cheese boxes, and just asked "is this a side dish or are you building a fort?" Felt that one deep. Now I try to stick to a list and keep the snack aisle visits to maybe one small bag of chips instead of the whole cart. Your mileage may vary but for me it was a wakeup call that my "treat yourself" budget was basically feeding a second family.

Haha oh man, that "feeding a second family" line hit way too close to home. I had the same moment when my roommate counted my TJ's frozen aisle items and just laughed. Now I force myself to only grab one "fun" thing per trip (other than the staples like milk and eggs). It's tough but my wallet is way happier.
