I finally stopped couponing after a talk with my neighbor

My neighbor Carol caught me at the mailbox last month sorting through like 30 coupons. She asked if I had actually saved money or just bought stuff I wouldnt have otherwise. I looked at my pile and realized I bought 4 boxes of granola bars I hated just because they were BOGO. She showed me her system - just a simple spreadsheet tracking 3 months of grocery spending before and after coupons. She saved like $8 a month and spent 2 hours clipping. I was spending way more time for maybe $12. I dropped the whole thing and just do a generic store brand list now. Anyone else ditch a money hack after someone made you look at the numbers?

That bit about hating the granola bars hit close to home.

Wait, you actually LIKE granola bars? I've never met somebody who admitted that out loud before. The grocery store ones are basically sawdust held together with corn syrup, and the "healthy" ones taste like a cardboard box that somebody sneezed on. My sister buys those Nature Valley ones and they just disintegrate into a pile of crumbs in her purse every single time.
