Overheard someone at the hostel say they never pay for accommodation in Europe
They said they just use house sitting websites and stay in people's homes for free while they're on vacation. Has anyone here actually done that for real or is it more complicated than it sounds?

@derek_burns is right, people make it sound way easier than it is. I tried house sitting once and ended up locked out of an apartment with a very confused cat staring at me through the window. Pretending to be a pet whisperer when you're really just a clumsy tourist is a whole new level of stress.

Oh PLEASE, like it's that SIMPLE. House sitting websites still require fees, background checks, and you're basically on call to take care of someone's PETS and plants while they're gone. Plus the really good sits get dozens of applications, so you're competing with people who've done it for years.
