I finally tried the 'walk away from the ticket counter' trick in Lisbon

My flight got cancelled and the airline wanted $800 for a new ticket. I walked to a different counter at the airport, pretended I was just starting my search, and got the same flight for $300. Has anyone else had luck with this move at a specific airport?

Wait, the same airline charged you $500 less just for walking away... that's insane.

Seriously, my buddy had the exact same thing happen. He got up from the desk at the airport, and the agent called him back with a cheaper fare right then. It's all a stupid game they play.
