TIL my total grocery spend for the month was under $200 for the first time since college...

I tracked every single receipt and realized I was spending over $50 a month just on those little 'convenience' items like pre-shredded cheese and single-serving snacks, which is crazy when a block of cheese and some reusable containers cost a fraction of that.

What gets me is the time cost, not just the money. Those convenience items are often about saving five minutes after work. But then you spend ten minutes at the store looking for them in the first place. I started keeping a block of cheese and a big tub of nuts in the fridge, and just taking two minutes to portion some out while my coffee brews. It feels less rushed than a frantic store run, and my kitchen is less cluttered without all those extra packages.

That's the real hidden cost, isn't it? I buy a big bag of carrots and a tub of hummus on Sunday. Takes maybe three minutes to wash and cut the carrots into sticks for the whole week. It's cheaper than the pre-cut ones and I'm not stuck hunting for a specific product that might be out of stock.
