My neighbor said to skip the canned beans and just soak dry ones

She told me it would save a ton of money, so I tried it with a 2-pound bag of pinto beans that cost $1.89. It took a bit of planning (you know, remembering to soak them overnight), but I got way more meals out of it than the four cans I'd normally buy. Anyone have other cheap bean recipes that aren't just chili?

Totally agree with your neighbor. Soaking beans is a game changer for saving cash. I make a simple bean salad with onion, cilantro, and lime juice. Also, try smashing some cooked pintos with a little broth and spices for easy refried beans. It's way more versatile than people think.

My grandma taught me to simmer soaked beans with a ham bone and onions for soup.
