My coworker's rice trick cut my grocery bill by $18 a week

Dana from shipping told me to buy the 20 pound sack of jasmine rice at the Asian market instead of the tiny boxes at the chain store. I thought she was crazy, that stuff takes up half my cabinet. First bag cost $16 versus $4 for a 2 pound box, but it lasts me about 6 weeks. I cook it in batches and freeze portions for lunches and dinners. Plus I stopped buying instant rice packets entirely, those were like $3 each. Anyone else got a bulk staple that actually pays off? I'm eyeing dried beans next.

Grab the dried beans but skip the tiny bags at the grocery store. Hit up the Mexican or Indian market and get the 10 pound bags of pinto or black beans for like $8. Soak em overnight in a big pot, cook once, then freeze in ziplock bags flat. Thaw in like two minutes. I've been doing this for years and it honestly saves me way more than the rice does. Also check the bulk bins at places like Winco or Sprouts if you have one nearby, you can buy just a few pounds at a time without committing to the giant sack.
