Hit $500 in my emergency fund last month and it finally clicked why everyone says start small

I was always one of those people who thought an emergency fund had to be like 3-6 months of expenses right off the bat. Kept putting it off cause I couldn't save that much. Then I just started tossing $20 here and there when I had it. Hit $500 and man, it felt different. Like a weight off my shoulders. When my car needed a $300 repair last week I actually had it. No panic, no credit card. Changed my whole view on saving. Anyone else have a random number that made it feel real?

Same here man. I started with a $200 cushion and thought i was just wasting my time. But when my fridge died and i actually had the cash to fix it without touching my rent money, that was the moment it clicked for me. $500 is the sweet spot where you stop feeling like every little thing is gonna ruin your month. It's not about having the full 6 months saved up right away, it's about proving to yourself you can do it.

That proof that you can actually do it is what keeps you going.
