Had a wild idea to use a garden sprayer for my pointing mortar yesterday...
The pump on my grout bag broke right in the middle of repointing this old chimney in Asheville. Out of pure desperation, I rinsed out a 2-gallon weed sprayer and filled it with the mix... and it actually gave me way more control for the overhead joints. Has anyone else tried a weird tool swap that surprisingly worked?

Honestly that's how a lot of the best fixes happen, just making do with what's around. It reminds me of seeing people use random stuff to solve problems all the time. The right tool is sometimes just the one that gets the job done.

Yeah @mason_stone9, that's just real world problem solving right there.

Taped up a broken garden hose with duct tape and a cut up soda bottle once. Lasted two whole summers before it finally gave out. @mason_stone9 is right, the best fixes are the ones you figure out with what's sitting right in front of you. People overthink things way too much when a little creativity does the trick. Honestly that hose worked better than the fancy replacement I bought later.
