Wasted $120 on a fancy indoor hydroponic tower that barely grew anything

I bought one of those countertop hydroponic towers from a brand called Urban Greens back in February. Set it up with their starter pods, basil and lettuce, and followed the instructions exactly. After 8 weeks I got maybe 3 tiny leaves per plant and the water pump kept making this grinding noise. I spent more time troubleshooting than actually enjoying it. Has anyone else had luck with a different setup for indoor herbs?

Yeah mine was a total dud too, barely grew anything and the pump died after a month.
