Vent: I was watering my jade plant every Tuesday for a year before a friend in Phoenix pointed out the leaves were soft from overwatering.
What's your best trick for knowing when a succulent actually needs a drink?

Seriously? I just wait for the leaves to look a little wrinkly... that's the only sign I trust.

Oh man, I have been there! @cameron770 is totally right about the wrinkly leaves being a solid clue. But here's something I learned from a crazy plant lady I know - you can actually pick up the pot and feel how light it is when the soil is bone dry. I wait until my succulents feel like a feather compared to right after watering, then I check the leaves for wrinkles. That weight trick saved my jade plant from turning into mush or getting too crispy.
