TIL that moss on a roof wasn't just an eyesore, it was ruining my shingles

I always thought people were overreacting about moss growing on their roofs until I pulled a chunk off mine last month and saw the shingles were all cracked and lifted underneath. Turns out the moisture from the moss had been eating away at the asphalt for years without me noticing. Anyone else have a surprise like that after ignoring a "small" plant problem around their house?

Wait, that sounds overblown. Moss can't be that destructive.
