TIL my fern was dying because I was watering it wrong for 6 months

I had this big Boston fern on my porch that kept getting brown crispy tips no matter what I did. Last Sunday I was repotting it and noticed the soil was soaking wet on top but bone dry at the bottom. Turns out I was just dumping water on the leaves and not actually getting any down to the roots. I switched to bottom watering with a tray and within two weeks the new fronds are coming in green and healthy. Has anyone else had a plant that looked fine but was secretly struggling?

Had the exact same thing happen with my peace lily about a year ago. All the leaves turned yellow at the tips and I thought it was getting too much sun. Moved it to three different spots before I figured out I was basically misting the top inch of soil while the roots were sitting in dry dirt. Bottom watering is a game changer for sure. I just fill up the saucer and let it sit for an hour until the soil feels heavy. The difference in my plants since I stopped being an idiot about watering is honestly kind of embarrassing.

Bottom watering saved my pothos from a slow sad death last year.
