Three separate people called my venus flytrap a 'carnivorous plant' and I snapped
I grow a bog garden in Portland and keep Dionaea muscipula in a 15 gallon tub, but every visitor calls it that. It's not a generic term, they say 'oh cool, carnivorous plant' like sundews and pitcher plants don't exist. The trap is just the leaf, and mislabeling the whole species kills the nuance of how each one hunts. Anyone else tired of correcting well-meaning friends at garden tours?

Is that why I stopped giving tours of my little greenhouse? I had a guy once point at my butterwort and ask if it was "one of those venus things" and I just handed him a tag that said Pinguicula and walked away.

The tag and walk away part got me because a buddy of mine did almost the same thing at a plant swap. Some lady kept calling his pitcher plant a "fly trap" no matter how many times he said Sarracenia, so he finally just said "yep, you got it" and let her buy it. Sometimes the plant talks better than we do, and that's fine.
