My neighbor pointed at my monstera's aerial roots and asked if it was 'sick,' so I explained what they actually do
She's been growing pothos for 15 years in her sunroom in Tucson and had never heard of aerial roots helping a plant climb and take in moisture. We ended up on her porch for an hour trading cuttings, and I went home with a rooted golden pothos and a new way of explaining basic plant stuff to people who aren't deep in it yet. How do you all handle the 'is this normal?' looks from friends who see your plants doing weird things?
Being honest about a plant looking weird beats acting like its some plant parent flex. Half of mine look like theyre dying from a distance when theyre actually thriving, and saying that out loud gets way more people into the hobby than any clever explanation.
