That five second clip of a man explaining DNS over coffee changed my whole setup
I was at a diner in Tulsa last Tuesday and this guy at the next table was showing his buddy how his domain pointed to a server. I only caught one line, something like "it's just a phone book for computers," and it hit me that I'd been messing with web stuff for years without really getting it. Went home and spent two nights looking up old registrar interfaces and dead link pages. I used to think boring websites were just slow loaders or bad CSS, but the real gold is the ones that make you understand how the whole thing works. Anyone else found a random corner of the internet that accidentally taught you something basic you'd been missing?

That phone book comparison is a good one, but did you ever figure out what happens when you type in a domain and the server is down or the address is wrong? The behind the scenes errors and retries are where the real confusion usually starts for people. Finding those dead links is oddly satisfying, it makes you realize how much trust goes into every click.
