Just realized the county tax assessor's site is a hidden gem for boring maps

I went to pay my property tax in Fremont last week and ended up on their GIS parcel viewer, which is somehow the ugliest page I've seen since 2004. But after 20 minutes I was hooked on the zoning overlays and the old flood plain layers, way more interesting than any of the paid map tools. Anyone else find a government site that's too dull for its own good but impossible to put down?

Check the assessor's site for the parcel history tab. It lists every ownership change since the 60s, which is way better than any title search I've paid for. Also grab the FEMA flood map overlay and the aerial photos from 1982. That's the good stuff. Once you find the measurement tool, you can figure out why your neighbor's fence is three feet over the line. Just don't tell anyone about it or they'll add a login wall.
