That little stretch my physio showed me is a game changer for edge sanding

I was getting this sharp pain in my forearm after sanding the edges of my projects for hours... thought it was just part of the job. My physio friend saw me wincing and taught me to extend my arm, palm down, and gently pull back on my fingers for thirty seconds. I do it before I start now, and during breaks if it's a big batch. The pain is basically gone... and I don't feel as tired by the end of the day. It made me think about how we ignore small aches until they become big problems. For folks doing detailed work with their hands, these tiny habits might save a lot of trouble down the line. I'm way more mindful about my posture and taking short pauses too.

Did you really need a physio to tell you to stretch before work? I've been sanding edges for ages and just dealt with the pain like a champ. Now I guess I have to admit that maybe ignoring my body wasn't the smartest move. Time to start pulling on my fingers instead of just powering through.

What kind of pain were you dealing with, @allen.amy, and did it ever get worse over time? Doing the same sanding motion over and over can really mess up your hands and wrists if you never stretch them out. How many years did you push through before finally going to the physio? It's wild how we ignore our bodies until something forces us to change.

Honestly, why is it seen as weak to get help before you're broken? I pushed through back pain for years thinking it made me tough, and all it did was make the fix take way longer. Getting a pro to show you the right moves isn't about being told to stretch, it's about learning how to stretch right for your specific job. Sometimes powering through just digs the hole deeper.
