I ran my book club for 2 years before I realized I was killing every discussion
Last Tuesday we met at Rosa's place in Dayton to talk about The Overstory and I caught myself doing it again. I kept jumping in after every single person spoke to add my own thoughts, and by the third person I could see them just waiting for me to finish so they could get a word in. After the meeting, a member named Dave pulled me aside and said 'you know you answer your own questions before anyone else can, right?' That hit me because I always wondered why our talks felt flat. Turns out I was running it like a lecture, not a debate. How do you all keep yourselves from taking over when you're the one hosting?
