Am I the only one whose book club pick got roasted because half the group read the movie instead?
We met at the Panera on Calhoun last Tuesday to talk about The Remains of the Day, and about 20 minutes in one member asked why the butler never actually meets the prime minister on screen. Turns out four people had streamed the film and skipped the book completely. I asked everyone to flip to page 112 and read the passage out loud, which quietly made the point without a fight. My fix going forward: we pick short books under 250 pages and I text a question each Friday so folks stay in the pages. Does anyone have luck keeping a mixed group like this on track, or should we just split into two meetings?
