Tried a $20 harbor freight torch instead of my usual victor setup for a small job today
Was doing a quick 2-inch pipe repair in a tight corner at the old con ed plant in queens and grabbed the cheap torch on a whim, biggest mistake of the week - it just couldn't hold a stable flame and wasted more time than it saved. Has anyone else had luck with budget gear for small jobs or should I just stick to what works?

Man that's the exact same thing that happened to me with a cheap regulator from a discount tool store. Couldn't keep a steady flame going no matter how much I fiddled with it, just sputtered out right when I needed it most. Your victor setup is probably worth every penny for peace of mind alone, cheap gear is fine for some stuff but not when you're on a time crunch.

Has anybody checked if the gas line had moisture in it?
