Shoutout to the friend who always 'fixes' game outcomes for beginners

Last game night, he secretly gave extra cards to a new player in Dominion to help them win. It feels wrong because it robs them of learning the real strategy, but he says it keeps them from getting discouraged. I'm stuck between wanting fair play and not ruining his good intentions. How do you handle this kind of situation?

My friend used to do that in Dominion too... but I learned more from losing my first five games fair and square. Getting the rules bent for you just sets up worse confusion later.

Wow, that really hits home. Tbh, I used to be the one asking for easier rules when I started out. But losing those early games on my own taught me way more. Now I see that getting help just makes it harder later. Honestly, it's better to struggle and learn the right way from the start.

Yeah, my group had someone like that and it just made learning the actual game take way longer.
