My local game store owner told me a story about crowdfunding 10 years ago
Last week I was at Dice Box in Austin picking up sleeves for my deck. The owner, Mike, started telling me about how he backed this game called Dwarven Forge back in 2013 on Kickstarter. He said it took 18 months to deliver and the box showed up crushed at his door. Tbh I never realized how messy crowdfunding used to be before all the big studios got involved. Has anyone else heard stories about early board game Kickstarters that went totally sideways?

That box showed up crushed at his door" sounds about right for my luck too. I backed a game once and it arrived looking like someone used it for soccer practice. Box was fine but all the pieces were just floating around inside like a sad little jigsaw puzzle.

Read a post on BGG a while back where a guy backed some dungeon crawler in like 2014 and the creator literally disappeared for two years with everyone's money. Came back saying he had a "personal crisis" and then shipped out half-finished minis with no instructions. Ngl, that era of crowdfunding was basically the wild west. Mike's story about the crushed box makes me think he got off easy compared to some of the horror stories I've seen online.
