Stumbling on a blog about preserving old family recipes changed how I see cooking
Talked to a guy at a coffee shop in Portland last Tuesday who runs a tiny blog with like 12 followers about his grandma's depression-era pie crusts, and he said "recipes are dead without a story" and now I can't stop thinking about how I've been treating cooking like math instead of history.

Oh man, I dunno. I mean cool for the grandma pie guy but calling recipes "dead without a story" feels a little dramatic lol. Like sometimes I just want a decent chocolate chip cookie recipe without having to read a novel about someone's vacation.

Scroll past the story to the recipe card, that works for me.
