Pro tip: I stopped using RSS readers and now just check bookmarks once a week

For years I maintained a Feedly account with 80+ feeds for design blogs and never got through half of them. Last month I cut it down to 5 bookmarked sites I actually visit every Saturday morning and it's way less overwhelming. Has anyone else abandoned their feed reader for a simpler approach?

Wait, 80 feeds? I thought you said you had over 80 design blogs but then cut down to 5 bookmarked sites, right? That's a pretty big jump from 80 to 5, not 50 to 4 like the other person said. Either way I get the appeal of just visiting a few favorites instead of drowning in unread items.

Oh man, I was totally that person who swore by RSS and thought bookmarks were for people who didn't care about keeping up with stuff. I had like 50 feeds in my reader and felt so productive checking them daily. But then I realized I was just skimming headlines and never actually reading anything. I tried your method last month with just 4 bookmarked sites and honestly it's way better because I actually click through and read full posts instead of just marking things as read.

Gotta admit I used to be the opposite kind of person. I thought bookmarks were old school and RSS was the smart way to stay on top of everything. But reading your story makes me realize I was just fooling myself too. I had a ton of feeds and felt so organized but really I was just checking things off a list without actually reading. Your approach of just a few bookmarks sounds way more honest about what you actually want to get out of reading online. Might have to try that myself and see if I actually start finishing articles instead of just scanning them.
