I thought blog monetization was a scam until a guy in Ohio proved me wrong

A blogger in my space, a dude from Cincinnati who runs a site about vintage tractor restoration, told me he makes $400 a month from a simple 3 year old post. I always figured you needed viral traffic or a huge email list to see any real money. He showed me his analytics: the post gets 800 visits a month from search, and he has two affiliate links and a text ad in the sidebar. That was back in April 2023. I copied his setup on my own niche blog about old hand tools. It took six months but now I pull in around $150 a month from one page about restoring a Stanley plane. Anyone else found a random old post quietly earning cash for years?

Happened to an old coworker of mine actually. She started a blog about finding cheap vintage furniture at thrift stores and forgot about it for like two years. Then out of nowhere she checked it and had this post about cleaning old brass doorknobs that was getting 500 visits a month. She slapped some Amazon affiliate links to a specific polish and some gloves and it makes her around $60 a month now. She said she wrote it in like 20 minutes on a lunch break too.

Wait, doesn't Amazon require a sale within 180 days for affiliate links to stay active?
