Blogging 2010 vs now - how I went from 2,000 word essays to 100 word photo captions
Back in 2010 I ran a niche blog about obscure indie bands from the Pacific Northwest. Every post was this huge research project with links, lyrics, and backstory - took me 4 hours each. Then around 2018 I noticed zero comments after weeks of posting. So I switched to just uploading a grainy concert photo with a 100 word caption about where I saw them play. Now I get 10-15 comments per post from strangers who actually found the band. Anyone else shift their whole blog format after realizing nobody reads the long stuff? What changed for you?

Oh for sure, that "RSS readers died off" thing is so real. I think the whole vibe shifted from people subscribing and reading in a feed to just scrolling whatever pops up on their social media, so long posts feel like homework now. And honestly, maybe it's just me but short captions almost work better because they feel like a quick recommendation from a friend rather than a lecture.
