Talked to an old shop guy who made me rethink truing wheels by feel

I was over at Pete's Bike Repair in Portland last weekend and he watched me tensioning spokes on a customer's wheelset. He said 'you're chasing numbers not roundness' and handed me a spoke wrench without a tension meter. Has anyone else had a mechanic tell them to ditch the tools and just use your hands for a bit?

Yeah that changed my mind too. Feel tells you more than numbers.
