Pro tip: my $38 bearing press from Harbor Freight paid for itself on one job
I was about to buy a $220 Park Tool press when a guy at the shop in Reno told me to try the cheap one first. It has pressed maybe 30 bottom brackets and hub bearings without a single issue, and the cups still look fine. For a home shop that does 2 or 3 bikes a month, I honestly can't see what the extra $180 buys you. What cheap tool did you think would fail but ended up being a workhorse?

So the guy at the shop basically saved you $182 by telling you to buy the cheap one? That's the real pro tip right there, not the tool itself. My $15 chain breaker from Amazon has done the same thing to me, I keep waiting for it to snap and it just keeps on working. Meanwhile my buddy dropped $90 on a fancy one and the pin bent on his third chain. Half the time the expensive stuff is just paying for the sticker and a nicer box. Park Tool makes good stuff but they know home wrenchers will pay whatever to feel safe.
