Paid $180 for a "shop quality" truing stand and got a wobble maker
I ordered one of those budget truing stands online last month, the kind with the plastic arms and the little dial gauge that everyone swears is fine for home use. Huge mistake. The thing flexes so bad that when I tightened a spoke on a rear wheel, the whole base moved a millimeter and threw off my readings. I spent 3 hours fighting a wheel that I later checked on a friend's Park stand and it was actually true within half a millimeter. The gauge itself also drifted every time I touched the adjustment knob. I should have just saved up another 120 bucks and bought a used stand from a shop that was closing. Now I'm stuck with this wobble maker in my garage. Anyone else get burned by cheap shop tools that pretend to be pro grade?
