Nearly lost my mix tape to a dying drum machine in a basement in Buffalo

I was tracking a beat on this beat-up 90s Alesis SR-16 in my friend's damp basement last weekend, and halfway through the snare sample started glitching and slowing down like it was gasping for air. I had to frantically record the whole sequence onto my phone's voice memo app at 2 AM just to save the loop before the thing totally died. Has anyone else had a piece of gear crap out mid-session and had to MacGyver a fix?

Did you try slapping the side of it? That's fixed my SR-16 twice.
