That demo someone posted last week had me second-guessing everything

I was sure that lo-fi drum machine track was just another bedroom mess, but I went back and listened with headphones. The way that snare cut through the static made me realize I'd been confusing "rough" with "lazy" for years. Has anyone else been fooled by a recording that sounded bad at first but turned out to be intentional?

The distortion on that kick drum in the first 30 seconds of the track nearly made me skip it entirely. I remember rolling my eyes and thinking "another guy who cant mix." But then I heard it on my monitors instead of laptop speakers and everything clicked. That static was actually filling out the low end in a way a clean sample never could. It made me rethink how I judge production value entirely.
