Tape hiss used to be a flaw, now I kinda miss it
Back in 2003 I was recording punk bands in my parents' basement in Tulsa on a Tascam 4-track. I spent hours trying to kill the hiss with noise gates and EQ, chasing that clean digital sound. Now when I listen to those old tapes, the hiss is part of the vibe, it feels alive. Anyone else find themselves adding artificial tape noise to their new recordings just to get that same feel?
