Shoutout to the $20 hum eliminator that did absolutely nothing for my hiss

Bought one of those little ground loop boxes online back in March for twenty bucks because my basement recordings had this nasty buzz under everything. Turns out the hum was coming from my dad's old mini fridge on the same circuit, and a $3 extension cord to the hallway outlet fixed it in 30 seconds. I still have the hum eliminator in the box, and the seller won't take returns after 30 days. Anyone else buy a gadget to fix a noise problem before they actually tracked down the noise?
