TIL the exact temperature your butter should be for perfect cookies

I was reading an old baking book from the library and it said softened butter is actually 65 degrees, not just 'room temp'. I tested it last night and my chocolate chip cookies finally didn't spread into one giant sheet. Has anyone else found a specific temp that changed a recipe for them?

Honestly it's wild how many things in life have that one exact number that makes everything click. Like the water temp for yeast, or even the exact angle to hold a phone for a good signal. We get told the simple version, like 'room temp', but the real magic is in the tiny details we have to dig for. It makes me wonder what other daily things have a secret perfect setting we just don't know about. What's a small change you tried that gave you a totally different result?

Totally get what you mean. I started putting my router on a small shelf instead of the floor and my wifi got way better. It's crazy how one foot of height can make such a big difference. Makes you look at every little thing in your house differently.

My dad taught me to set the water heater to 120 degrees, not the default 140. It stops scalds and saves a ton on the gas bill. @paige_wells44 is right about the secret settings. It's like the exact gap you need under a door for air flow, or the perfect mix of dawn and vinegar for cleaning soap scum. The right number is always hiding in plain sight.
