Had an older lady at the farmers market tell me my sourdough crust was too hard and I couldn't figure out if she was being rude or helpful

She pulled me aside after I handed her a sample and said 'honey, that bread will cut your gums up' which made me laugh but now I'm second guessing my bake temps for the past week so has anyone else gotten weird feedback from a customer that actually made you change your process?

Ha, oh man that's rough. I've been there. One time at a bake sale some old guy told me my focaccia looked like a "defeated mattress" and honestly I still think about that whenever I make it. But the gum cutting thing is kind of funny in hindsight. I bet her teeth are just sensitive from years of chewing on boot leather steaks. I wouldn't change your temps over one grumpy grandma, she probably just likes her bread soft enough to gum at this point. For what it's worth, I've gotten complaints about my bagels being "too chewy" and my croissants being "too flaky" so people will criticize anything that has texture. You do you.

Wait, "defeated mattress" tho - was it flat or just ugly?
