My smart bulb setup went full disco at 2 AM and I still can't figure out why
So last Tuesday around 2 AM, every single smart bulb in my apartment started flashing red, blue, and green like a cheap rave. I have 6 of them, all different brands, and they've been fine for about 8 months. I stumbled out of bed and tried the app, but it just spun and said 'connecting.' I unplugged the hub, plugged it back in, and they went solid white for like 10 seconds before going back to the disco show. I ended up unscrewing every bulb by hand at 2:30 in the morning because I couldn't take it. The next day I checked my router logs and saw about 400 connection attempts from one of the bulbs, but I have no clue which one. I reset everything and it hasn't happened since, but I'm sleeping with the breaker off for now. Has anyone else had a smart bulb just lose its mind for no reason, or did I somehow trigger a firmware update from hell?
That 400 connection attempts detail is the part I'd dig into, since one bulb hammering the router usually means it kept trying to reach a server it couldn't find. If those bulbs are on a guest network or a separate VLAN, a router reboot or ISP blip can knock them off and some cheap firmware just retries forever. Was the flashing bulb actually the same one spamming the logs, or did they all go nuts at once?
