That $18 GPS app turned my mountain bike route into a swamp adventure

Last month I paid $18 for a fancy GPS mapping app because the free one kept dropping me on roads that don't exist. On Sunday near Asheville, it routed me straight down a washed out logging trail that ended in a knee deep mud pit. My buddy laughed for ten minutes while I pulled my bike out and walked a mile back. The app had the trail marked as a solid green 'main route' with zero warning about the creek crossing. I checked the reviews after and three other people posted the same issue from last spring. The developer never updated the map, so that $18 bought me a really specific souvenir of North Carolina clay. Has anyone else paid for trail maps that clearly came from a 2005 survey or am I just lucky?
