Just realized the "Alaska is huge" Mercator joke is backwards for what I actually care about
I always laughed at those Alaska-is-bigger-than-Texas map memes, but last week a guy in a geography Discord posted an equal-area projection of Greenland next to Mercator and it kind of broke my brain. Turns out Greenland looks about the size of Africa on the standard web map and is really closer to the size of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is a huge difference. Now I can't look at a world map without wondering what got stretched to fill the rectangle. Does anyone know a simple site that overlays the true size shapes so I can stop guessing?
