Dropped $40 on a used GPS unit at a flea market in Akron and it led me straight into a cornfield
So I'm a sucker for old electronics and I grabbed this beat up Garmin from a guy selling socket wrenches out of his trunk for $40. Figured it would be a fun backup for hiking trails around Cuyahoga Valley, and the screen lit up so I handed over the cash. First trip out, the thing told me to turn left off a gravel road and I ended up driving 200 feet into somebody's corn until my tires spun. The map data on it was from 2009, and apparently that field used to be a county road, so the unit was just doing what it was told. I pulled out the paper map I keep in the glovebox and got back on track in ten minutes. Cost me a tow rope and some pride, but now I keep that old thing mounted just to laugh at how confidently wrong it is. Has anyone else had a cheap secondhand GPS send them somewhere that doesn't exist anymore?
