Tried drawing with a mechanical pencil vs a cheap ballpoint at 2am
Was up late last night watching TV and decided to doodle this weird cat with too many legs. Grabbed a mechanical pencil first and it just kept smudging everywhere, made the whole page look like a mess. Switched to a Bic ballpoint I found in my junk drawer and suddenly the lines were clean and sharp, even if the cat looked like a mutant spider. That pen turned my ugly drawing into something actually funny instead of just frustrating. Anyone else have a go to tool that makes your bad art better?

Gotta disagree hard here - mechanical pencils are way better for late night sketching because you can actually erase the junk you hate. Every time I use a ballpoint I end up with this permanent mess of scribbled out lines that looks worse than the smudges.

Oh man, I saw this whole thing about how famous comic artists actually ballpoint instead of pencil for the final lines... there's some weird history there. But yeah @felix385, getting that permanent scribble look is just a mood killer when you're trying to vibe at 2am.
