My tent poles snapped on day 2 of a 6 day trip in the Smokies
Was on the AT section near Newfound Gap last month and my cheap aluminum poles just gave up during a wind gust around 2am. One of the shock cords had already been fraying but I ignored it, dumb move. I had to rig the whole thing with duct tape and a spare trekking pole I brought for creek crossings. It held for the rest of the trip but the tent sagged like a sad tarp every night. Now I carry a pole repair sleeve and a spare cord kit, costs like 12 bucks total. Anyone else had a tent fail mid-route and had to improvise with gear that wasn't meant for shelter duty?
