That $200 cable tester I bought on Amazon was a total dud
Picked up a generic multiconductor cable tester off Amazon for about $200 last month to test some harnesses I was building. Took me three days to figure out it was giving false continuity readings on pin 14 every single time, cost me a whole afternoon redoing work that was fine. Anybody else run into bogus test gear like this from the big online stores?

Honestly had a $20 multimeter blow up in my hand once.

Yeah I had a cheap meter fail on me too, but I switched to a Klein that was like $40 and it's been solid for years. The thing is you don't always need top tier stuff, just something that won't catch fire when you're testing a live circuit. I'd say maybe look at the safety ratings next time, even the budget ones can be okay if they're CAT rated right.
