Vent: my buddy's "quick oil change" turned into a 3 hour panic

Last Saturday my friend Dave said he could swap my oil in 20 minutes, easy. He had this old floor jack from his dad and a socket set that looked like it survived a fire. Long story short, he drained the transmission fluid by mistake because the plug looked identical from underneath. We figured it out when the car started shifting weird and the dipstick showed bright red instead of dark brown. Cost me $45 for the right fluid and another two hours of shop time at a place near Columbus to undo the damage. He still swears the drain plugs are "basically the same," and I've banned him from touching anything with a pulley or pan. Has anyone else had a "helpful friend" cause more work than they saved?

Wow, that transmission fluid mix-up is why I always take a photo of the drain plug before touching it.
