Stopped by a Saturday morning car meet in Modesto and half the hoods stayed shut
I went to a cars and coffee in Modesto a couple weekends ago and something felt off. Back when I started going to these things, everyone had their hood up so you could actually see what they built. This time it was mostly shine and rims, and when I asked one guy about his intake setup he just shrugged and said he paid a shop to do all of it. I get that not everyone wrenches, but it made me wonder if the DIY side of this hobby is thinning out. Anyone else seeing this at meets near them, or did I just pick the wrong parking lot?
You sure you weren't just at the wrong meet? I hit cars and coffee in San Jose and Sacramento and the hoods are still up, but you gotta know which lot to park in. The Modesto scene has always leaned more toward show and shine anyway, lots of lowriders and classics that never had much under the hood to show off in the first place. Half the guys keeping them shut probably just have a clean stock motor and don't feel like hearing people nitpick it.
