Serious question, I picked a 12 ton press over renting a ball joint kit and I'd do it again
Everyone on here tells you to just rent the loaner kit from the parts store, but I priced it out last month and renting was $38 a day times the 3 days my truck sat in the driveway, so I bought a 12 ton press for $160 instead. I pressed out all 4 ball joints and 2 u joints in one Saturday and it took maybe 40 minutes of actual pumping. The loaner kits are beat to death half the time, and the C frame clamp on mine had a bent screw that fought me for an hour. Keep your old sockets, a good set of press plates costs almost as much as the press itself. If you do the math on 2 or 3 jobs the press pays for itself, so why do people still swear by the rental?
