Wasted $400 on a remanufactured alternator that died in 3 months

I needed an alternator for a 2010 F-150 I was flipping, so I grabbed a reman unit from a big parts chain instead of spending the extra $150 on new. It worked fine for about 8 weeks, then I get a call from the guy who bought the truck saying the battery light is on and it's barely running. Had to tow it in, swap it again, and eat the labor on my own time. Anyone else given up on reman electrical parts or is it just me?

Buddy of mine bought a reman alternator for his Silverado and it lasted barely two months. He was so pissed he just went and bought a brand new one that same day.

Yeah, "eat the labor on my own time" hits close to home. I used to be the guy who swore by reman parts for everything because the price difference seemed worth it. But after an alternator and then a starter both crapped out inside a few months, I realized you're just paying to fix the same problem twice. The extra 150 bucks for new starts looking like a bargain when you factor in your own time and the hassle of taking stuff back. Now I only buy new for anything that keeps a vehicle on the road.
