Heard a young tech say 'why bother' about timing chains yesterday

I was at the parts counter at NAPA in Springfield yesterday and this kid maybe 22 years old was asking about a timing chain kit for a 2012 Ford 3.5 EcoBoost. The counter guy asked if he was gonna do the VCT solenoids too while he was in there and the kid just shrugged and said 'why bother if it runs fine now.' I wanted to pull him aside and explain that you save yourself a comeback in 30,000 miles by doing it all at once. Has anyone else noticed the younger guys skipping the extra steps that keep jobs from coming back?
