The painter who told me to skip the epoxy primer was flat out mistaken
My cousin Bobby, who paints customs out of his garage in Fresno, swore I could just lay down urethane over bare metal on my 87 F-150 tailgate. Three months later the whole panel had lifting along the bottom edge, all the way from the driver side to the latch. I re-stripped it with 80 grit and hit it with two coats of SPI epoxy, and now it's been sitting outside through two rainy winters without a single bubble. Anyone else been burned by taking shortcuts from someone who should know better?
